BETA members help at Get Down Downtown festival

Beta member lent a helping hand at the Get Down Downtown festivities, by running booths and entertaining young kids with fun filled games.

“My job was to run the kiddie karaoke,” said senior Mallory Wyatt.

“We are working the duck game. It’s really simple, you just pick a duck and if it has a number, you get a prize,” said juniors Alexa Hart and Carli White.

“It’s good to hang out with kids and to let them know that someone’s there for them and let them know that we can play games with them for a couple of hours,” said senior Muhammad Roberson.

“I’m working the bouncy house called ‘The Adrenaline Rush.’ It’s really cool,” said junior Cassidy Stevens. “It’s got two entrances and you can race people. It’s a little tough sometimes, because smaller kids will try to go through it and you have to kind of push them.”

One junior, Collin Whitney, had the chance to make a special connection with the kids.

“Today, I’m working the Bean Bag Toss and it’s a lot of fun,” said Whitney. “This is how it works, you take a bean bag and you throw it in the hole.”

Other students, like junior Morgan Stanley and senior Emily Wood, worked game stations as well.

“I’m in change of the Washer Toss. Basically you just toss the little rings into a circle,” said Wood.

“My job here is to run the Bean Bag Toss. I tell the kids how to play it and they get to throw the beanbag into the whole. If the make it, they get a prize,” said Stanley.

Not only was this a good point opportunity, it was a good way for them to reach out to their community.

“It’s been a very fun experience. This morning we had a couple of technical difficulties, but hopefully we will overcome those before the end of the day,” said Wyatt.

“It’s a great way to get into the community and help people and their kids. I also get points for BETA,” said White.

Overall, the BETA members enjoyed themselves throughout the day playing with the kids of Searcy.
