Local orthodontist buys candy for military

Berry Hill Park hosted the Hopkins Orthodontics Candy Buy Back which allowed people to sell back their candy for one dollar per pound.

The candy was later donated to the troops overseas.
“I volunteered for BETA and there was a bunch of little kids running around, and there were some bouncy houses and some snow cones and free food. It was all for the troops,” said senior Tori Opaklecky.
The event attracted many people with bouncy houses, horse rides, and even free food.

Food was another drawing point of the event.

“There was a lot of free food. There was free pizza, hot dogs and snow cones, so it was pretty cool,” said junior Bayley Garringer.

Mainly children and their parents attended the Candy Buy Back making the event more fun for some of the volunteers.

“I liked helping the little kids because they are hilarious. Our game was awesome because the bungie cord pulls them back and their expressions were hilarious,” said Garringer.

One of the most interesting parts of the event was that people could send letters along with their candy.

“Kids could color pictures, write letters or whatever they wanted to do and send it overseas,” said junior Mary Carr.

The event presented challenges for people who volunteered.

“It was really hard to get the kids to take their shoes off for the bouncy houses,” said Opalecky.

At the end of the event, many people had sold back all of their candy and had a lot of fun.
