Theater reopens with ‘Christmas Carol’

Screen Shot 2013-01-10 at 2.44.34 PMThe local community theater, Center on the Square, has been hard at work with the new building and hopes to improve the experience they have with their guests.

“We are hoping to provide some amenities for our patrons that we haven’t been able to provide before, like better seating and climate control,” said Carla Fuller, Chairman of the Board for Center on the Square (COTS). “We are hoping the air conditioning will work all the time and that the heat will work all the time, and that they will work in the appropriate seasons. We will re-upgrading on the lighting and the sound. The stage will be a different shape than we have before and it will create a different look for every show.”

Even though acting in the space may seem different, the actors feel the audience will benefit greatly.

“The shape of the stage is actually more realistic to normal stages so it will give you a feel as if u never been anywhere else,” said junior Davis Polston.

Center on the Square will open the doors at its new theatre for its production of “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens, adapted to the stage and script written by Chris Thompson, who acted at COTS before according to Fuller.

“He has let us use this script before about five years ago, so this will be a reprise of a great show we did five years ago,” Fuller said. “It is going to look a little different, it’s going to be a little darker than before with a true redemption of Ebenezer Scrooge in the end. It will feel more like a journey from evil to good than it did the last time we did it; it should be really interesting.”

Center on the Square offers a few different options for purchasing tickets including online.

“We are the community theatre and we want the website to be  accessible by the community,” said Fuller. “We want all of the community that is involved with us to send in their information and be included in the website.”

She said if a patron is not comfortable with buying tickets online, call 501-368-0111.

“If you get voicemail that means someone is out running an errand, building a set, buying paint, finding a costume, just leave a message you will get a call back,” said Fuller.

Be sure to go and support this big change for Center on the Square.
