Basketball begins with Batesville bashing

Screen Shot 2013-01-14 at 3.04.10 PMWhile worrying about what to prepare for Thanksgiving, the Lions had their first appetizer, the Batesville Pioneers.

“I knew we had a good team and we had all our football players in, so I didn’t think it was going to be a tough task,” said sophomore James Wade.

The away team was served some good home cooking with 84 to 54, which was a result of the lions hard work, and they expected this win and were pleased with the results.Screen Shot 2012-12-05 at 2.14.43 PM

“We got a lot of the guys in the game, even some of the sophomores. We got a lot of experience,” said Coach Jimmy Summers. “The football guys got up and down the floor a little bit and got a little exposure. It was nice to play everybody.”

Because of Searcy’s dominance on the court, they were able to play all of their players on their team, and while they were there each player was certain to make his mark.

“I thought we played really well as a team. One of the best things that happened, we had fourteen guys play, all fourteen scored. That doesn’t happen a lot,” said Summers.

Wade agreed. “It was really great. Everyone scored. That means we did our job as starters and let them come in.”

Although the Lions passed this game without a sweat, they’re worried that their newly added football players might not be ready for what lies ahead of them, which has them working hard to prepare for the future games.

“We’re still in the process of getting them in shape and everything for basketball, but they’ll get there eventually,” said Wade.

“We’ve been working on a lot of fundamentals and stuff with our guys we’ve had the whole time, but football had a great season. They just got done,” said Summers. “We got eight new guys brought in the gym, and it was just kind of like hurry up and put some things together. We really worked on shooting, passing, and just putting in our basic offense right now; just trying to get them caught up.”

Be sure to go out to the basketball team’s games this year to see how they have improved.
