A major snow event on Christmas day caused problems but provided fun for residents of Searcy.  School was not affected since it took place during the Christmas break.

Some places got up to a foot of snow and for residents in Searcy, that meant snow men, snow angels, and snowball fights.

“We had snow ball fights and we made snowmen,” said freshman Faith Carter. It was fun,”

The snow also caused power outages and road blocks due to the broken limbs from trees; some people lost power for days.

“I used a flash light, but we still couldn’t see,” said Carter.

This caused many to not be able to get to work and do the things they enjoy during this season.

DSCN1069“I drive a Mustang, and they don’t drive at all in the snow, so I couldn’t go any of the places I wanted to,” said senior Michael Field.

People had to weave in and out of the road blocks just to get into their driveways.

However, some had ways of getting around it.

“We have a four-wheel drive, so it was pretty easy,” says Carter.

Some went to stay with relatives or friends and used fireplaces to stay warm.

” We have a wood stove. We used it to keep warm,” said  Carter.

Despite the difficulties the weather caused people many still managed to enjoy the snow and the time they had off.

“My buddies and I would pile up in a four-wheel drive and go driving through the fields,” said Field.

Unfortunately, due to the snow, the roads built up a lot of ice.

This made it difficult for people to get out on the roads.

“It was very slippery. Almost life threatening,” said Field.

Searcy received eight to ten inches of snow this year, more than the past couple of years have gotten.

“It was all very pretty and white,” said Carter.

Despite the difficulties, the people of Searcy still managed to have a great time with the snow.
