“I expect this to be a successful and positive season for all students,” said director Tony Luzzi.

The students, like the directors, have high expectations for themselves. The sophomores, second year marchers, know what to expect this year and are ready to kick off the season.

“Last year, all of this was just so new and scary,” said sophomore Jasmine Jones. “This year I know what to expect and I am ready to have new memories at the games, at contest, and on the bus.”

The new marching routines were created over the summer by the directors through long hours of listening to music and looking for inspiration everywhere. They came up with the theme of ‘We Are An American Band.’ It features unique sequences and patriotic music.

“We choose music and theme first, then I write drills over the summer. We listen to a lot of music and I watch other bands for ideas,” said Luzzi.

The students love the new marching show; they have new ideas that they are trying out this year.

“I love it; we are trying a lot of new things that we have never dared to try before,” said Jones. “We have a lot more fun and everything is bigger and better.”

The band has worked hard since the beginning of the school year. They began to learn the new material and working on the marching steps two weeks before school. Even though they have had a short time to learn, they have worked hard to learn the diffucult routines.

“We march and play every day; I hope the students are practicing at home,” said Luzzi.

With more people joining the band, the students are having to adjust to the new people and learn to work together.

“There are a lot more people, so we have to think about everyone,” said senior Kierstyn Kittler. “We all work together more now.”DSC_0692

Since the band has grown, they can try more this year than they could last year. That excites the marchers most.

“It is different than the last show. There are a lot of new effects and we have a few new props,” said Jones. “It is going to be one of the best shows we have done.”
The seniors being their last year and being the most experienced have stepped up to the plate and took over the leadership role. They help keep the marching sequences clean.

“We have all worked together a lot this year,” Kittler stated.

Like the seniors, the freshman have stepped up this year. Since it’s their first year to march, they have really had to step it up to learn the new sequences in time, but they are excited to march at the events this year.

“I like marching in the parades,” said freshman Joseph Weaver.

The band has worked hard to set themselves up for a successful year.
