Band takes best in class at Cabot marching competition

Searcy High School band throughout the year, represents the school in many competitions and contests. One of the first contest the band performs at each year is  the Cabot Invitational marching competitions.

This year the band brought back  many awards.  Searcy band received first division in flags, drum majors,  percussion, and overall. They also took home best flags in class, best brass in class,  best drum majors in class, and outstanding band in class.

Being her seventh year in the band program, these awards did not come as a  surprise to flag member Emily ladd.

“Our band has around 194 strong members and  we all work really well together.  We practice a lot so it is really rewarding to see our  hard work pay off,” Ladd said.

The Cabot invitational is the first contest of the year, making it the first marching competion freshmen get to compete in.

“I was really excited about marching in my first contest, but it was really hot having to wear the uniform,” said freshman Courtney Cloyes.

This year Searcy did not receive best percussion in class unlike last year.  The award went to Vilonia High School and Searcy drum line participants were very surprised by this.

“I really felt that we did a good job as a percussion section, there were just percussion sections with more resources than ours.  We just need to practice more for the next contest,”Junior drum line participant Shane Phillips said.

The band has many more contest and competitions to come.  The next one is a War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock on October 15.

“If the band does just as good as we did at this contest throughout the year, then we will have a very successful year,” said Senior Band member Hannah Stewart.
