Screen Shot 2013-10-28 at 2.40.55 PMHomecoming is not just a football game, there is also an assembly that showcases the Homecoming Court. The assembly isn’t just for the court, but for the Lionsteppers and varsity cheerleaders, to show their half-time shows.

The one thing that really stuck out to the observers was seeing the Homecoming queen be crowned and taking her place upon her throne.

“My favorite part of the assembly was seeing the Homecoming queen walk across the stage and be crowned,” said freshman Madison Guthrie.

The assembly is not just for the Homecoming queen to be crowned, but for the Sweethearts and their escorts get to walk on stage and announced. Every club picked a senior to be their sweetheart, so it was a real honor for the girls who were chosen. The girls were then escorted by one of the boys in that club.

“I loved getting to see all the girls dressed up and then walk across the stage with their escorts,” said Guthrie.

Just like the half-time at the game, the dance team and cheerleaders got to before for the queen. The  did a dedication dance to how hip-hop has progressed through the years. The cheerleaders’ dance showed their diversity in dancing with different dancing styles. Both groups performed wonderfully and really impressed their audience.

“I loved seeing the cheerleaders and dancers perform,” said Guthrie.

DSCF0663 The Homecoming Court is chosen by the football team, and  they try to pick the girls that are the most involved in the school. This year they chose Cassidy Stevens for Queen.  With being the queen comes many difficulties. The main difficulty for Stevens was finding the right dress and suit for the assembly and game.

“The hardest part was finding a dress for the assembly and the suit,” said Stevens.

Stevens had multiple responsibilities to help keep the assembly running smoothly. She had to select not only her outfits, but also the crown that Mr. Smith used to crown her. To get ready for the assembly, she had to also do several things to achieve the look of a queen.

“I had to pick out a crown and my sister had to fly in to do my hair and makeup,” said Stevens. “I had to go pick out a corsage and flowers, and I had to make sure it was all here for the assembly on time.”

She chose Grant Grady and Collin Whitney to be here escorts. The boys felt honored to be her escorts and to be apart of this big night.

“It was a great experience. I’m very proud to be chosen and honored she picked me,” said senior Collin Whitney. “It is such a privilege.”

The escorts were not the only ones that felt honored, Stevens felt honored to be the girl chosen out of all the girls in her grade.

“It means a lot. We have a lot of amazing girls in our grade so to be the representation is just crazy,” said Stevens.

With all the effort put into the assembly, it ran smoothly.
