Seniors prepare for college with visits, taking ACT

Screen Shot 2014-02-21 at 2.35.56 PM It’s finally crunch time for seniors who are applying for college next year and several of the students have some advice for the future seniors.

“Start your college search early, because it can began to get very stressful if you don’t know for sure. But just have fun and go where you want to go,” said Morgan Stanley.

One of the most important things to remember is not to procrastinate, because you could miss an opportunity to get a scholarship from your ACT score.

“If you haven’t taken the ACT yet, take it before your senior year,” said senior Landan Keichline. “You want to take it as many times as possible and get your points as high as possible. Also, make sure you read every email they send you, because most of the time they are going to give you free applications.”

The application process is different for every students. There are many requirements that come with the process that have to be done.

“I had to go online and apply and you have to put some stuff on there about high school and then you get your acceptance letters. You need to fill out as many scholarships as you can,” said Rachel Simmons

“I’ve done a lot to prepare. I’ve been applying to a lot of colleges and I raised my ACT scores couple of points,” said Keichline.

The counselors at the high school can be a great help in times of difficulty when it comes to applying.

“I talked to the counselors a few times about it, but they will really help you with your college application process,” said Simmon.

The counselors job is to make the process easy and to always be there to walk you through it.

“When I go in there, I ask them questions and they help me figure it all out. They help me when I’m trying to figure out how many college hours I have and have made it very easy,” said Stanley.

“The counselors help a lot, they have been kinda walking me through the process of applying, getting help from everybody.” Said Keichline.

Guidance secretary Sylvia Cleveland said not to hesitate to apply to every college; the more, the better.

“Apply, apply, apply. You to need apply to as many as you are you even think about going because you don’t ever want to  close an opportunity,” said Cleveland. “You know don’t close any doors, for where you might want to go, because plan A might not always work out. So you always need plan B.”

Cleveland encouraged students to visit colleges and use college days during the year to go see what each school offers.

“You know what you see on paper sometimes looks different once you get there,”said Cleveland.  “You might decide that’s not the place for you.”
