Seniors will miss concert choir

The choir banquet is the end of the year celebration for senior and underclassmen students in concert choir.

“We do this to honor each senior and give them the opportunity to notice an incoming concert choir member is to important for seniors to be rushed and it allowed our concerts to be about the music,” said choir director Tina Niederbrach.

Family and friends were all welcome to come and support the seniors.

“The guests were a big support for all the seniors, especially the parents of the seniors,” said senior concert choir member Jordan McGrath.

The ceremony is opened up with an invocation and comments from Searcy High School’s principal Claude Smith and Searcy’s choir director Tina Niederbrach.

“I put on my Facebook page, ‘where has the year gone,'” said Mrs. Neiderbrach in the her welcoming statments.

Parents were thanked by Smith and Niederbrach  for being so supportive.

“You have no idea how much it means for you to be at their events,”  said Niederbrach.

Then the honorary choir members were robed which included Jody Moore and Nikki Nichols. During the banquet, awards, like all region certificates and all state medals, were given out

“I won the all state choir medal and an all region certificate,” said McGrath.

For the seniors and sophomores the night was very emotional.

“It gets happy and sad because the sophomores are coming up and the seniors are leaving. Passing of the torch thing is emotional,” said McGrath.

Mrs. Niederbrach showed different emotions during the night as well.

“This is my 34th senior class and it really never gets easier. The choir and our room feels like home so in a sense we never really say goodbye just ‘bon voyage,'” said Niederbrach.

During the banquet, seniors gave their robes to a sophomore of their choice and “stepped down” from their position.

Since emotions were high during the night, the crying bucket was brought to the banquet.

“The crying bucket is full of supplies when you’re sad like tissues, cough drops, germ x and other things,” said McGrath.

The sophomores look forward to stepping up and filling the shoes of the seniors who left Searcy’s concert choir.

The night was full of memories that will not be forgotten.

“I love to hear the seniors thoughts on choir and its importance in their lives. I love their humor and seriousness sometimes within the same sentence,” said Niederbrach.

“My favorite part of the banquet giving a rocking chair to Mrs. Neiderbarch and saying thanks to everyone,” said McGrath.DSCF0899

Seniors will miss things about the choir as well as be missed by the people they are leaving behind.

” I will miss singing with the family,” said McGrath.
