Little Rock’s Komen race one of largest in nation

Little Rock hosts the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in October, and Arkansas’ happens to be one of the largest in the nation.  People from all over Arkansas, and even some from other states come to participate in the race against breast cancer.

This year over, almost 50,000 people participated, among which were survivors, fighters, and those racing in honor of their loved ones.  All of the proceeds raised, go towards finding a cure.  Only 25 percent of the money raised actually leaves Arkansas, while the remaining 75 percent stays in Arkansas to help those battling breast cancer.

Sponsors such as Ford, KARK, Yoplait, Chick-fil-A, and many others all play a huge part in race.  Ford, for example, gives out bandanas and founded the Warriors in Pink, in which all of the proceeds go to the Komen foundation.

Along with the Race for the Cure, comes all the supporters on the sidelines.  The 3 Miles of Men, local school bands, local firefighters, and people who just want to show support cover the sidelines.

Juniors Hannah Stewart and Megan Nolte, both participated in this year’s race.  Nolte and Stewart ran the entire 5K in thirty-seven minutes.

“After it was all said and done, I was plum tuckered out, but it was worth saving the ‘girls’,” Stewart said.

Race for the Cure is a great way to show your support and raise money to fight breast cancer, along with the chance to hear some remarkable stories of survival.
