Pioneer Village gives glimpse to yesterday

One of Searcy’s best kept secrets is the historical society Pioneer Village which serves as a window for people to catch a glimpse at White County’s past.

“Pioneer Village is a restoration project of the White County Historical Society,” Elizabeth Herd, director, said. “The buildings were collected from around White County to preserve for future generations, and our past from where our ancestors came from.”

Elizabeth Herd is a Member of Friends Of Pioneer Village where she is one of many people, who work hard to encourage people to visit the village.

“I love it because it kind of makes me know where my great grandparents came from,” Herd said.

Pioneer Village is a little piece of preserved history.

“And I love showing off. Because it is one of Searcy’s best kept secrets. Everywhere I go I’m like a missionary. Saying ‘do you know about Pioneer Village?’,” Herd said.

Many people do not realize the importance of Pioneer Village.

” We have a big mission ahead of us, to spread the word about Pioneer Village and make others aware of it so that it can continue to be a force that connects us to our history,” Herd said.

If you would like to check out Pioneer Village, it is located at 1166 Higingson Street here in Searcy.
