Cyber-bulling affects students

Teenagers spend and average of 31 hours a week online. Some teens spend there time researching things, playing online games and even chatting with friends and family. Then there are some teens who are putting the internet to a more negative use such as, cyber bullying. Cyber bullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology devices including cellphones, computers, and tablets and can usually be done over social media sites, text messages, chat rooms and other websites.

Cyber bullying behaviors include but is not limited to posting inappropriate pictures or messages about others on blogs, websites or social media, harassing text messages or emails spreading rumors on social networks and pretending to be someone else to name a few. According to mask matters.org, 62% of teens were cyber bullied by a fellow student , 46% were bullied by a “friend” and 55% did not know the bully personally.

You have to think what goes on inside of a bullies head and what is making them act out and hurt others. 81% of young people say that they cyberbully because they are bored and think it is funny. Some say they bully for self protection and or revenge and others say they bully to boost their ego and make them more popular .

Bullying has a big impact on children’s life and can affect them for the rest of their life. Kids who are cyberbullied are most likely to, use alcohol and drugs, skipping school, have lower self-esteem and have more health problems.

 

“I was scared to go to school the next day because I didn’t know what to expect, ” said senior Brenda Mack.

The fact that there are individuals out there aiming to hurt other individuals is really mind boggling,to wake up and fear going out into the world and living your life care free without any judgment is unacceptable and has to stop. If you are getting bullied and have come to your breaking point you should report the bullying to an adult , ask for advice and or stand up for yourself and there are ways to do so without using violence. Look at the bully and tell him or her to stop in a calm, clear voice. Don’t be afraid to let someone know about the bullying other people can be a good help. Bullying is not right and no one deserves to go through it .
