Winter break gives students, teachers time to reflect

Searcy High School students and teachers get a break for Christmas ever year between the two semesters.  Students use the break to spend time with family and to take a break from the busy first semester.  Throughout the Winter break, students and teachers have fun taking vacations, spending time with loved ones, and just staying home.  Christmas break means a lot to students.

Students view the religious significance as the most important part of Christmas.

“Pretty much Christmas means to me that it’s Jesus’ birthday even though some people think it’s about getting presents and stuff,” Senior Mitchell Vickery said.

During the break students do a variety of activities which include spending time with family, taking a break from the busy first semester, traveling to other states and even other countries, and just staying home and having a family Christmas. Students and teachers have many favorite parts of Christmas.

A lot of students like receiving presents during Christmas every year.

“My favorite part of Christmas is getting stuff because people just want to give me stuff,” senior Edwin Sherwood said.

Students use Christmas break to spend time with family.  Marissa Ayers said she loves watching all the  animated Christmas movies with her parents.  Teachers also use the break to spend time with their loved ones.

“My favorite part of Christmas is getting to be with my family,”  PAP Biology teacher Mr. Barnes said.

Though Christmas break is an important time both for religious and family reasons, some students just like being away from school.

“My favorite part was not having to go to school and not having to get up early,” Vickery said.

Overall both students and teachers will all have parts that they consider the most of important of Christmas break.

“To not forget what it’s originally about,”  said Ayers.

Teachers also have significant parts of Christmas.  Barnes considers the most important of Christmas to be “getting to see your loved ones, and getting to talk to them.

All in all, Christmas break is a very eventful time for both teachers and students.
