Home Run for Katelyn Thomason

Searcy (LP) Many young athletes dream of being able to play the sport they love in college. For Searcy High School senior Katelyn Thomason, this dream just became a reality. On March 3, 2016, Katelyn took the huge step of signing on to play college softball for Lyon College.

“I have played softball for as long as I can remember,” Katelyn responded when asked how long she had played her beloved sport. “All my life I have done traveling teams and played in city leagues.”

When someone plays the same sport for so long it can become very easy to get burnt out or bored. Katelyn told us the key to her motivation to keep playing every season. “My team motivates me more than I can explain. I love the sport and how close our team is.

I look forward to stepping out on the field with them every game. We are more like a family than a team.”

Picking a college can be difficult for anyone, so Katelyn told us what made her choose Lyon College. “Lyon is a great college, so when they offered me a spot on the team, I could not resist.”

Katelyn expects that college ball with be a little different from playing at the school level. She told us, “I think it will be much more competitive, and I will have to work a lot harder. It will be much more work to balance out practices, games, and school work at the higher level, but I know that I can do it.”

Katelyn plans to spend the summer preparing for the year to come at Lyon College. “I will keep practicing harder everyday and start working with their team,” she told us when asked about her summer plans.

Katelyn seems to have her path set and future with softball planned. She told us that if she could give any advise to players of any team trying to achieve the goal of playing college ball, it would be, “Work hard and play harder because it will all be worth it one day.”

We can not wait to see the great things that Katelyn accomplishes next year at Lyon College.
