Wrestling team is honored

Searcy (LP) This past Wednesday, March 16, the Searcy Wrestling Team was presented in front of the Searcy School Board. The team was being honored for their achievements over the recent years and for representing the Searcy School District. Coach Evans was responsible for introducing his wrestlers, he did so in a professional manner. The team had several medalists, including not one, but two-time state champion Jordan Slaughter. Several wrestlers were unable to make the meeting, but their names were mentioned anyway to honor their achievements.

Cory Pope, a second year wrestler wrestled for the second time. Brad Brown, a first year wrestler, is the first wrestler in Searcy High School history to place in state as freshman, placing 5th. Devon King placed 6th, Justin Vaughn placed 5th, Wallace Robinson placed 3rd, Caleb Freeman placed 2nd, and Jordan Slaughter placed first. Coach Evans also mentioned that after Slaughter’s impressive record of over 100 wins this season, he is being heavily recruited by many colleges, including Duke. Ryan Kleypas, after taking two years off, was able to come back and win the central conference championship. All of the wrestlers were very honored to be presented and look forward to more successful years. unnamed
