Review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Batman v SupermanSearcy (LP) It’s been nearly two years since Superman’s (Henry Cavill) colossal battle with Zod (Michael Shannon) devastated the city of Metropolis. The loss of life and collateral damage left many feeling angry and helpless, including crime-fighting billionaire Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck). Convinced that Superman is now a threat to humanity, Batman embarks on a personal vendetta to end his reign on Earth, while the conniving Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) launches his own crusade against the Man of Steel. The film follows the aftermath of Superman and Zod’s fight and the effect it has on earth as a whole. Ben Affleck slays as Batman, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman received a standing ovation at my theater. Henry Cavill is amazing as Superman, and Jesse Eisenberg is menacing as Lex Luthor. The visuals are stunning, the dialogue is brilliant, and the acting is wonderful. Batman v Superman is a great jumping off point for the DC Extended Universe. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was released in the United States and the United Kingdom on March 25. It opened simultaneously in North America, China, and Japan, the world’s three largest film markets, as well as additional international territories, with the exception of Poland, where theaters do not open on Good Friday. Following reports of pre-tickets sales in both the United States and Canada on February 29, many insiders and analysts predicted an opening weekend haul between $120–140 million for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with some projecting as high as $185 million. The film grossed $166 million in North America in its opening weekend. The film had a worldwide opening of $422.5 million, which stands as the biggest opening for a superhero film, the second biggest for Warner Bros. and the fourth biggest of all-time. As of April 10, 2016, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has grossed $296.7 million in North America and $486.8 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $783.5 million. The next DC Comics film to be released will be Suicide Squad (2016), followed by Wonder Woman (2017). Other future films in development include The Flash (2018), Aquaman (2018), Shazam (2019), Cyborg (2020), Green Lantern Corps (2020), and a two-part Justice League film, with Part One releasing in 2017, and Part Two in 2019.
