Fresh Feelings

Searcy (LP) Sweaty palms and nerves high, are just some of the things freshmen face in this new journey called High School.  This year is supposed to be one of the “scariest” years of them all.  It could make you wonder, all these students and teachers pour all of these thoughts into the freshman’s head about how it will be, but what is it really like? It could be intimidating with seniors plowing through the halls or it could be the big school, but something has the freshmen stomachs turning. Madison Hamilton  a senior said her biggest fear entering high school was the upperclassmen and it took her a few days to figure things out. Obviously not everyone’s experience with freshman year will be the same its different for everyone, boys, girls, and some people are just more confident in themselves. Tyler Higgins a sophomore at Searcy High says that his freshman year he “felt like a little kid thrown into the real world”. Although he had an advantage with his aunt working at the school.   Many kids would feel like this, considering how big of a school they are attending and it being only their first year there.

Madison was mostly worried about her classes and finding them. Many teachers tell you before your in 9th grade,  it could be the most important year out of all of them. But do the students feel the same?  Shelby a freshman at SHS says his freshman year has been the same as everyone told him it was Tyler says that freshman year “isnt anything special” compared to this year. Madison says “you take lots of important classes but really your whole high school career is important to your future.” Tyler didn’t have many fears entering his freshman year but Algebra 1 was one thing he for sure wasnt looking forward to.  Too many students might fear highschool because of the massive projects people say your gonna have and the long book reports.  Tyler’s advice to future freshman is “don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself. It dosent matter that you are fresh meat the upperclassmen will respect you more if you stand up to them”. Shelby said the only thing he feared this year was the classes he was going to have to take. Madison’s advice for future freshman is to “not blow off any classes, high school goes by so fast”.

No one can really be prepared for their freshman year because you can never fully know everything you will experience. Some people might not have any other way to prepare for high school other than their friends u already have in highschool and in your grade  Everyone could use some tips for their frehsman year Be Prepared – This means to not stay up overnight like you want to.  You have to get your things ready for school and hit the bed! Be Confident – If you go to school everyday worried you’ll get lost, or worried the seniors are going to mess with you then you are just inviting a bad attitude into your day.  Come to school with a smile on your face and confident today will be a good day. Take Opportunities – High school is one big opportunity in itself. you choose your classes, electives and how difficult your classes are.  So take the opportunities that are presented to you and better your education

High school is something that no one can truly look forward to, but so many memories are made here. High school will forever be the times all students look back on and remember everything they used to do.  Freshman year might be just like every year to you, but it can be some of the best years of your life.
