Searcy(LP) Food, great rides, and fun. What else could make the fairs great? The White County Fair started on Saturday, September tenth and lasts until Saturday, September seventeenth. The fair is a fun place to go to enjoy many activities such as the parade on opening day, pagaents and talent shows, the Demolition Derby, and the openings of Midway and the buildings. The fair brings unity to our county and people come from all over Arkansas. The White County Fair is the tenth largest single county fair in the United States. The fair is a big deal to Arkansans and Americans alike. Giving his opinion on the fair, Chris Baron (Darts Game Worker) states

“I have been at the fair for six years. I enjoy my job a lot. I’ve been working this booth for six summers. I work from anywhere from twelve to fifteen hours a day. The money I get depends on how many people play the game.”  As you can tell, the fair is a positive solution for citizen’s problems of being bored. Many animal enthusiasts can go to the horse shows, heifer shows, petting zoos, and presentations of livestock. There are so many fun activities and great booths to look at. To make this all happen, the thirty to forty Fair Board members work very, very hard. They work to make people happy and to make the fair as safe as possible. There is no alcohol, firearms, or weapons allowed at the fair. If a fair worker or member finds a suspicious looking person at this area, they will politely ask the person to leave. If a person is threatening or has one of the non-permitted items, they will be escorted out of the fair. The president of the Fair Board, Mitchell Spurlock, offered his hard-earned time to give information about the fair.

While discussing the fair and the issues surrounding it, he states “My favorite part of the fair is the whole fair. It is for the kids, it is for the youth, and it’s for the county. All the stuff that the kids are involved with, shows them the old ways, because when we’re constantly trying to battle electronics, the New Age, we want to keep the kids occupied with the natural part of the fair, farming.” The rides at the fair are safe for everyone. They are inspected by the state for mechanical problems and efficiency. So far, on average, between one hundred and one hundred thousand people come to the fair in a week. The County Fair is amazingly well known in Arkansas. “The Nemesis will be the most popular. And the 360, with all the seats in it, kids go crazy over it. It’s in Memphis right now and it’s the  top ride in the United States. Our biggest attraction is always Saturday night with the Demolition Derby. We have a large crowd all week, but it’ll be mostly (crowded) by itself.” The fair will be going on for only seven days, so make sure you visit it at least once or twice and have fun!
