Freshmen cheer coach loves working with squads

Ninth grade cheerleading coach Tyler Choate has coached ten squads over the years here.

Before Coach Choate started here, she was a peewee coach for four years at Bald Knob.

“I’m filled with love for my squads that I coach each year,” Choate said. “I love when everything comes together and seeing the smiles on the girls faces is what I love the most.”

The ninth grade cheerleaders this year are Captain, Angel Breaux; Co-Captain, Elizabeth Taylor ; and Laney Hoofman, Katey Carnitz, Madison Reynolds, Sarah Swain,  Ashton Thompson, Sophie Kamerman, Libby Looney, Cara Sevier, Sarah Thomas, and Delaney Smith.

“It has always been apart of my life from peewee to present,” Choate said. “I love seeing them progress from junior high to senior high. This is a huge change.”

Coach Choate feels accomplished when she gets to teach the girls new stunts and watching them grow together as a team. But being a coach is hard work.

“You can be a volunteer, but to be a ‘Coach’ you must take several certifications,” Choate said.

Part of her job is to keep the girls’ spirits up.

“Keeping the girls from getting discouraged when they don’t hit a certain stunt and keeping the crowd involved at the games (is hard),” Choate added. “This can very hard at times when your team is losing a game.”

Over the years,  Choate Choate has had 30 All-American Cheerleaders, twenty-five trophies, seven spirt sticks, and over ninety-one ribbons.
