Lady Lion’s Volleyball Success has Spiked

Searcy (LP) Volleyball hasn’t always been a sport played at Searcy High School. It was added into the Searcy athletic department in 2010, and while it is fairly new, the girls, lead by Coach Emberson have made something of a name for themselves.

In past years here at SHS, volleyball hasn’t performed at the level that everyone knew they were capable of, due to their rough beginning. This meaning that since the sport was so new and fresh to the searcy area, many people weren’t skilled in the sport because of the lack of  access  they had to it.

The team has picked up speed in their search to become the best. Many of their players have had the opportunity to develop and enhance the skills required to  be a great volleyball player. What time and self- discipline couldn’t teach them, they learned in camps and workshops over the years. Over the summer, the Searcy volleyball team has expanded their horizons to make their team better. The volleyballers went to numerous camps over the summer. They participated in events such as Spikefest, and camps conducted at both the Harding campus, and the University of Central Arkansas. In between those difficult camps, the team engaged in hardcore extensive practices here in the gym, so many in fact that senior, Gabby Tipton, refers to it as a “ summer spent on the court.”  While the summer was difficult, senior Maddie Werley believes, “The work we put in will  be shown on the court. Our success will matter so much more to us knowing we worked so hard for it.”

So far, the varsity volleyball team has suffered minimal losses, making this year their best season yet. The team is eager to finish out their season in flashing colors,  proving that they have worked hard for their success. “I can definitely see how long practices and camps have improved us, and I’m grateful that we have had the chance to change and grow. I can’t wait to see what this year has in store for us,” says the captain of the volleyball team, Courtney Teasley.
