Searcy (LP) Homecoming is a big thing especially for sports, sweethearts, and royalty. Every year each club picks a sweetheart, this person is usually a senior and has participated in the club more than others. These students have a date and line the field showing a great example for their club and their own accomplishments, they are also chosen by the people in the club.  The homecoming royalty is picked by the football team and is shown all through the game. This years homecoming Royalty is Queen Sophia Stanley, Maid of Honor Madison Guthrie, Senior Maid Claire Holden, Junior Maid Madison Moffatt, and sophomore Maid Julia Shands. An anonymous parent stated ,”It is very sweet to see my daughter get dressed up and excited for homecoming knowing it is a last chance” she also mentioned “It’s great that the school and local places help students have pep and look nice for homecoming even if it’s just a game.”

For the seniors this year just as all the years before this is the last homecoming at Searcy High School. Most seniors go even if they aren’t a fan of football simply because it is the last one and want to get their last high school homecoming experience. Attending the last of any event is bitter sweet for many people. For Claire Holden this is seen more true. Claire was a sophomore maid and this year she was a senior maid being part of the royalty even once is a honor but twice is even bigger. Claire stated, “It’s sad and bittersweet to attend my last homecoming. I’m happy I was chosen to be on the royalty for my last year.” Homecoming usually has certain expectations. These expectations can be the thought of a dance or party to just dressing up with corsages.

The thought of changing homecoming is hard, but Claire believes, ” Homecoming should have a dance afterward and the royalty voting should be school based not the football players. Homecoming was held October 7th including an assembly in the Performing Arts Center at 2 P.M., while the field activities started at 6:30 P.M. The SHS Varsity Lions took on the Marion Patriots at Lion Stadium at 7 P.M. Congratulations Royalty and Sweetheart. Good luck seniors!
