Searcy (LP) Halloween is just around the corner, and safety is key no matter how old or young anyone is. Halloween has been around for centuries but there is always a risk. The best way to make sure you are seen on Halloween while you are walking door to door so a car doesn’t hit you would be to decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers, and if all possible light colors. Choosing face paint and makeup whenever possible instead of mask, which can obstruct a child’s vision. Having glow sticks or flash lights to carry will help the children see and the drivers see the children. For drivers on Halloween they need to drive slow and be especially alert in residential neighborhoods. It’s also important to take extra time to look for kids at intersections, median, and curbs. Make sure when you are entering and exiting driveways slowly and carefully. Eliminate any distractions inside the car so you can concentrate on the road and your surroundings. The most popular trick or treat hours are from 5:30 p.m. till 9:30 p.m.

Some other safety issues are the candy the kids are getting. There has been times in the past where kids have gotten candy with razors, needles, glass, and drugs in them. A good way to check is if the package is open, do not eat it. And if  there is any candy you have never seen before either throw them away or google them! The internet knows almost everything. And most of the candies that have been given out that are going to be posted about! But then again not all strange looking candy is not bad, sometimes just breaking it open can tell you if the candy is okay to eat or not. Former student at Searcy, Whitney Lee, said “my parents were always checking my candy each house we went too, they did this to help prevent anything to happen to the children in their community. If a house had weird candy or anything in it they could call the cops on that house instead of wondering which house it was. It’s better to be safe then sorry!” So checking your candy is key!
