Searcy (LP) A recent study shows that music can have a similar effect on people from completely different cultures, it makes it clear that music is worlds Universal Language. It speaks to everyone from all over the world. There was a worldwide vote on, If you could only listen to one genre of music for the rest of your life, what would it be? 18.4% of people said that they would listen to Pop, 15.3% said Country, 13.1% said Rock, 9% said Christian, 7.7% said Folk, 7.3% said Hip Hop/Rap, and 4.6% said Blues/R and B. But what kind of music does Searcy High School students think they could not live without?

According to Freshman Alexandria Ali Tate, Pop would be her choice to listen to. Tate explains why she listens to this music saying, “I listen to Pop music a lot because I really like it and it gets me in a good mood before school and a big game.” Sometimes we do not know exactly why we love a type of music or a particular song, it more of a pump up method. “When I listen to Pop music it does not really speak to me it just makes me be happy and glad that I awake,” Ali explains. Music can just be a thing you do in your spare time or something to take your mind off of something that is going to or has happened.

Sometimes music truly does speak to your heart and you just can not help the fact that you have to listen to that certain kind of music. Senior Nathan Bartilson says, “I usually listen to music that makes me feel something, so songs with good chord build, beat, or really good lyrics. I like Twenty One Pilots a lot, and also John Bellion.” Sometimes music just gives us a sense of release and a feeling of security. Bartilson says, “Often times music to me just reminds me I am NOT alone. I listen to this music because it is meaningful to me.”

The worlds teens said that the genre of music they could most not live without is Pop with Country being a near second. It is not a secret that music has an impact on the world. Although, music is known throughout the world, different genres speak to different people. Even at Searcy High School there is not a particular type of music that everyone listens to because everyone is different.
