Searcy Lions Baseball Team Closing In On Their Season

Searcy (LP) With the beginning of the 2017 Spring baseball season looming, the Searcy Lions Baseball team has hastened its preparation. Searcy’s baseball program has always been a powerhouse of some sort. They are able to manufacture successful seasons on a yearly basis; that expectation for this season will not change. Maintaining this level of success requires hard work, dedication, and the right state of mind from all of the players on the team, but this takes months of practice to achieve. Despite losing many seniors last year to graduation, the baseball team still remains optimistic that they can accomplish a lot this year; there are several talented sophomores and juniors who are ready to step up and help lead the baseball team to the playoffs and hopefully a state championship.Thankfully, the baseball team has been preparing for months now during their off-season training that includes an assortment of conditioning and drills to polish their baseball skills.

Although the baseball team hasn't been able to practice outside much, they're making the most of the opportunities they have.
Although the baseball team hasn’t been able to practice outside much, they’re making the most of the opportunities they have.

This year’s baseball team has several seniors on the roster, all of which are hoping to end their high school baseball careers in a good fashion. Several key players in particular are hoping to accomplish a lot this season, and their desire to be great has been reflected by their performance every day at practice. The baseball team made their positive outlook known regarding the upcoming season. Senior player Will Wilkins said, “I think we’re going to have a really good season, because our conference changed and we play smaller schools now. We were dominant last year in a stronger conference, so that should reflect this year in a weaker conference.” However, it is important to not get too caught up in success, as over confidence is often the downfall of sports teams. Coach Davis said, “I feel we should enter into the upcoming season feeling confident in our talent and in our experience. I think they understand that they are a talented team and have confidence in themselves to be successful if they stay focused on the task at hand day in and day out. If we can stay humble, then that is going to be the key to our success this year.” With that being said, the Searcy Lions baseball team looks primed to make a good postseason run and to have yet another chance at a successful season.
