Searcy (LP) SHS is starting the new year off with new sport seasons. One of these sports are Lady Lion Softball.

Searcy HIgh School is starting the new year with new sports. As new sports are coming in others are coming to an end. On January 23rd the softball team had a fundraiser at Bailey’s Pizza. It was at 4:30pm to 10:00pm. The fundraiser was to help the team with the program.

Softball is similar to baseball but it is played with a bigger ball and on a smaller field. It has seven innings instead of nine and when pitching you have to do it underhanded. There four bases: first base, second base, third base, and home plate. To win the game you have to have more runs or points than the other team. “There are 16 girls on the team” says Adelaide Vaughan. They  all work as a big unified team. “Now imagine having 16 girls waiting to back you up and help you succeed” says Vaughan. She decided to play softball because it’s has always been her dream to go to college with a softball scholarship like her mom. “I always have looked up to her and she never got a chance to fulfill her full ride scholarship because she had me at a young age” says Vaughan.

The Lady Lion Softball season officially starts on March 2nd. They will be playing against Wynne at SHS and it  will start at 4:00 pm. The last game that ends the season will also be a home game on May 8th against Beebe at 4:00pm. “I believe this season will go well. I just started practicing with that softball team, but I can already tell that this team will go far” says Vaughan. They always work as a family. They practice at the softball fields, but if it rains they go to the indoor facilities. “Our workout usually starts with running a few laps and throwing softballs back and forth just to get warmed up” says Vaughan. Then their huge workout is every other day. They run to to the new field house and do weights. “We usually do three sets of ten with arms  and legs. Then we move on to weights to get our elbows stronger and things like that” says Vaughan. After they are done they run back to the field and scrimmage.

On March 2nd come support our Lady Lion Softball team and wish them a good season.
