Searcy Girls Golf Team Looks Foward To Next Season

Searcy (LP) The Searcy Lions golf team has enjoyed a lot of success recently, particularly for the girls team. For the last two years in a row, the girls team has finished as the state runner-up in 6A golf. After two years of finishing second place, the girls feel like this may be the year that they take the next step forward. The Searcy Golf Team will have all senior girls next year, who have played varsity golf for three years now. Not only do they have experience, they have the skill needed to win a state championship for Searcy.

This year is special, however, because the golf team now has extra time to prepare; starting this year, the golf team will get to practice golf during the spring semester as well. Prior to this year, the golf team only met up during the fall semester, and they had no chance to practice during the start of the year. Now, the golf team has a chance to practice during seventh period every day at school, and this should give the girls a head start on their ambitious goals. The girls don’t plan on taking this opportunity for granted. Junior Grace Williams said, “The girls as a whole are excited for this upcoming season. We placed state runner up last year and plan to try to bring home the trophy this year. With getting the extra practice, we will be at the top of our game.”

Practicing is extremely important, but it’s just as important to have a winning mindset. The game of golf is very mental, so you have to remain confident and calm. Coach Turney said, “Our girls team has experienced success before, so they know that they have to be confident in their abilities to win in order to be successful this year.” With their senior year ahead of them, there’s no doubt that the girls golf team will want to end their golfing careers in a winning fashion. All of the opportunities are there, they just have to keep working hard and believe that they can accomplish what they want. The golf team will have a chance to exhibit their abilities when the season starts during late July.
