Mrs. Niederbrach’s Battle with cancer is won

Searcy (LP) “Early June is when I found out I had rectal cancer. At first I was shocked and a bit afraid, and then I just got very mad, not at God but at my body for letting me down. Once Jay and I got over the shock, we looked at each other and I said, ‘I am going to beat this’ and he said, ‘Of course you are!’  I will never forget the sweet prayer one of my choir director friends prayed over the phone that very day with us. I knew that God held me in his arms and would give me the strength that I needed as well as my family.” states Mrs. Niederbrach. Her cancer was found on May fourteenth last year. Long doctor appointments, radiation and chemo treatments, catscans, surgeries, and an iron transfusion began. She took off from her job as a Choir teacher at Searcy High School for a few weeks to get treatments. She began with radiation and then went from chemo to radiation back and forth over the period of approximately three months. After her first catscan, she was able to go back to SHS and work half days. On October 12th, 2016, she had her first surgery to remove the prevailing cancer at Saint Vincent’s Hospital.  The cancer stopped spreading. On November twenty-first, she returned to prepare the choir students for their Christmas concert.

Throughout her struggle with cancer, Mrs. Niederbrach has been treated with kindness and blessed. The administration, the school nurse, and the faculty  at SHS helped her by  providing meals and days off. The choir students were taught by Mr. Willard and Mrs. Alumbaugh while she was gone. She states gratefully “I have the most loving and understanding students who have continually pulled together and worked hard all year long. They have supported me with their prayers, thoughtful notes, sweet gifts, and who can forget Purple T-shirt day!”

Mrs. Niederbrach went through a hard battle, lasting ten months and thirty- eight days. Her father died on February ninth, shortly after she returned to school. She has been blessed and remains positive throughout her struggle.

“I would not wish this battle on anyone, but to know that I coming away cancer free strengthens and frees me like nothing else I have experienced. Each day and moment is a blessing.” she states.
