Searcy (LP)  You may not know that the Searcy High School is one of the top schools in Arkansas for their academics, and they are still thriving to make them even better. A current computer and business teacher, Vicki Moseley said, “there will be five new business and computer related classes- Advanced Database, Advanced Spreadsheet, Insurance and Risk management, Office management, and Social Media Communications.” All of these classes are open to ninth through twelfth graders attending SHS, while anyone could take the classes Ms. Moseley gave us an outline of how you would put the classes in your schedule “a ninth grade student starts with the core course either CBA or TBA, this gives the student an opportunity to earn Microsoft certification in word 2016, Excel 2016, PowerPoint 2016 and excel expert, ninth graders can also take Financial Literacy, tenth graders that took these core classes are encouraged to take any of the new classes, and Juniors and Seniors are encouraged to take the business classes.” One of her main goals for these classes is “to better meet the employment needs of our area and to equip our students to gain employment in areas of business.” There are also two new science related classes being offered by Mr. Adam Musto. These two classes are College Biology and Principles of Biomedical Science, Mr. Musto shared with us who is qualified for the classes “For College Biology students should have already passed Physical Science and Biology, and preferably completed or is enrolled in Chemistry, I encourage most all Juniors and Seniors that plans on going to college to take this class, because you can get a college credit for it while taking it at the high school.” A few of the people who have enforced the addition of these classes were “Mrs. Roddy, Mr. Smith and myself.” The class Principles of Biomedical Science is also being offered by Mr. Musto, “this class is going to be to expose students to human physiology, basic biology, medicine and research processes.”

This is also classified as an introductory class so Mr. Musto recommended that underclassman should enroll in this class if they are interested in considering a career in a science or medical field, he also stated that “Principles of Biomedical Science is an introductory course that is part of a four year program we hope to continually expand into our program.” With all the teachers working on these new courses for SHS students, we hope that they will all be a success and students taking them will achieve a more college and life ready education coming out of high school.
