CONGRATULATIONS to the High School Orchestra for making superior 1 ratings at contest performance and a superior rating in sight-reading.  Because of these scores they are a Sweepstakes Orchestra. 

 

CONGRATULATIONS to the 9th grade Orchestra for making excellent 2 ratings at contest performance and a superior 1 rating in Sight-reading.  

 

CONGRATULATIONS to the SHS Wind Ensemble and SHS Symphonic Band for their outstanding performances at the Region 4 Concert Assessment.  The Wind Ensemble earned First Division ratings on the concert portion and a First Division in sight reading, and the Symphonic Band earned Second Division ratings on the concert portion and a First Division in sight reading.  These ratings coupled with the ratings from the Region Marching Assessment earned the ASBOA Sweepstakes Award for the SHS Band.  Great job!!!

Each of these students are now eligible to represent Arkansas and National HOSA contest in Orlando, Florida

STUDENT BODY OFFICER ELECTIONS for the 2017-18 school year are coming up soon. We will elect Student Council President, Vice President, Secretary, and Historian in April. Petitions may be picked up from Mrs. Jones on Monday, March 27th (the day we return from Spring Break) and are due by that Friday, April 3rd. This election is only for overall

GOLF TRYOUTS: Golf tryouts: Tryouts for the 2017 Lion and Lady Lion golf teams will be May 15th-17th at 3:30 at Searcy Country Club.  Students must have a current physical to tryout.  Free Physicals at school are on March 31st.  Students can sign up and pick up an information sheet and physical form in Coach Turney’s room (117).  There will be a MANDATORY meeting for all students trying out on Wednesday, May 10th at 3:15 in Coach Turney’s room.  You MUST sign up, have a physical, return the information sheet, and attend the meeting in order to tryout.

 

BASKETBALL TRYOUTS:  Tryouts for the 2017-2018 SHS Sr. Boys’ basketball team for NON-SPRING SPORT ATHLETES will be March 27th-31st at 3:15 in the Annex gym.  Tryouts for all spring sport athletes will be on May 18th-19th at 3:15 in the Main gym.  Any student who wishes to tryout must sign up with Coach White and have a current physical.  For more information see Coach White or Coach Turney.

 

IMMUNIZATIONS:  Once you have turned 16 years old, a 2nd MCV4 (meningitis) shot will be required.  Please bring an updated shot record to the nurse as soon as you receive this shot.

 

SCHOLARSHIPS:

KIWANIS SCHOLARSHIP application is now posted.

 

UNITY HEALTH SCHOLARSHIP applications are to be turned in at the hospital. We do NOT collect those in the Guidance Center.  Pay close attention to details and instructions on ALL scholarships.

 

ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP: The Arkansas Society of Professional Engineers, Central Chapter is now accepting applications for their annual scholarship.  They award two $1000 scholarships each year to graduating seniors from Central Arkansas that intend to earn a degree in engineering from an accredited university.  Other qualifications are as stated on the application.  Interested students can pick up an application in the Guidance Center.

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS:

FISHING CLUB: Fishing Club members who plan to enter tournaments will meet next Thursday, March 16, at 7:00pm in room 320 (Mrs. Jones’s room). Competitive club members, their parents, and boat captains should plan to attend.
