Searcy (LP) The Searcy Lions Track Team took the 6A Conference by storm last week, winning first place of all the participating teams. With this victory, the track team is now qualified for the 6A track state tournament. Of the teams in this tournament were Vilonia, Beebe, Clarksville, Greenbrier, Little Rock Christian, and Morrilton. Despite the large field of teams, Searcy still had no problem taking the top spot. However, given the degree of success the track team has achieved this season, this is no surprise. The track team has maintained a steady level of prosperity; this is thanks to the hard work and dedication shown on a daily basis by all the members of the track team. According to freshman Parker Staggs, they expected nothing less than first. “We practiced hard all year for this moment, and we knew that as a team there would be no one to stop us. We knew that we had it in us all along.” This expectation to do great has fueled the track team, and they have no intentions of slowing down now.

Despite their string of victories, it is imperative to stay on top of your practice and preparation. With the state tournament looming ahead, the track team has no time to enjoy their excellent finish in the conference tournament. However, this should not be a problem for the track team. Coach Carroll, the coach of the track team, described the team as “focused but excited” for the opportunity ahead. “I believe that our team has what it takes to do great in the state tournament, but in order for this to happen we have to continue working hard like we have.” Seeing as the state tournament is next week, there is not much left in terms of preparation for the track team. Their main focus should be having the right mindset to win and knowing that they have what it takes to be successful even against other very talented teams. Taking first place at the state tournament is a very difficult task, but who knows? With this year’s track team, they should never be counted out of it.
