On the road to Swaziland: church travels to Africa

My first trip out of the states was a mission trip to Swaziland, Africa. I got to see little children and give them items they really needed.  (All photos by Sara Hamilton)

Driving down the roads, I saw many women carrying sacks and bags in their arms and even balancing them on their heads. Men usually worked during the day, so I saw more women than men.

I visited many homes and villages, which are technically called homesteads. It was great to watch their faces light up as they were given beans, rice, toys, clothing, and shoes.

Visiting the homesteads, I got to see many living areas. In Africa, the houses are usually made of wood blocks, cement, boards, tin, etc. The most popular though, was the family’s dried manure stacked to make a house (like the one above).

The Swazi’s, people of Swaziland, were extremely nice and very friendly. I always got a smile and a wave in return.

The sunset, animals, and the scenery were all just a bonus to this wonderful experience I got have.

Searcy Faith Assembly of God went on a mission trip to Swaziland, Africa this past summer. 20 people went, including 13 from Searcy and 7 from Texarkana. We flew 20 hours there and drove 5 hours to the country of Swaziland.

The country is beautiful and it felt like home. I got to witness different things. The children were great and I loved watching how to Swazi’s lived.  When we went, we built many churches, wells, orphanages, chicken coops, etc. It was a great experience before my junior year of high school. I can’t wait to go back this summer.
