Spanish, French students celebrate culture

Each year the week before spring break is celebrated as “Foreign Language Week”  by Spanish and French students with many activities.

“I learned a long time ago that whatever I teach in the week before spring break I have to reteach,” Lori Nielsen, Spanish teacher said. “So we decided to have a fun week of cultural activities with all the classes together.”

Food, talent show and a movies were among the activities of the week.

“Foreign language week is fun because we get out of class every day for a week,” said junior, David Woods.

On Monday, the foreign language department supplied food for all of the students in French or Spanish.

Woods said his favorite day of the week was the day food was served.

Tuesday, the teachers put on a talent show and even the teachers got into the act by dancing to a  Spanish song to kick off event.

Mallorie Spiker and Jennah Denney performed a French song. Spiker played her guitar while Denney sang.

“Mallorie and Jennah did a great job at the talent show,” Sophomore, Micah Tipton, said,

After the girls performed, the students had the opportunity to go on stage and learn a Spanish style dance.

The last three days of the week the movie, Hugo, was in English but had Spanish subtitles. Hugo also took place in Paris bringing in all the French scenery.

Teachers tried their best to make the week as entertaining as possible, even dancing for the students.

“I needed more practice,” said Spanish teacher Wendy Cunningham.
