‘Pitch Perfect’ proposes perfect fun

DSCF0280I sat down to watch Pitch Perfect with some skepticism about whether or not I would like it, but by the time the credits came I was already set on buying my own copy.

Pitch Perfect was adapted from a book by Mickey Rapkin and directed by Jason Moore.

It follows Becca, played by Anna Kendrick, a college freshman that just wants to move to Los Angeles to be a D.J. and music producer.

When she goes to college she is pressured by her dad to join a campus group. Becca is talked into trying out for the Bellas, an all girls a cappella group lead by Chloe, played by Brittany Snow. Beca starts the Bellas rehearsals with a chip on her shoulder and a ‘too cool for school’ attitude.

In her spare time, Beca pursues her passion of music by working at the school radio station which is where she meets Jesse, played by Skylar Astin.

IMG_0623[1]Jesse is a member of a rival a cappella group and flirts with Beca from their first meeting.

Skylar Astin is completely believable in the role of a dorky, sweet, college guy.

To Beca’s surprise, she begins to get close to the girls in her group and lose some of the negativity.

She becomes invested in the Bellas and tries to inject new energy into their dull performances as they head to nationals.

While many have compared it to Glee, I find that it lacks constant drama found in Glee.

While the music is good and all the voices sound good, it was the quirky characters that made the movie stand out.

Rebel Wilson’s performance as Fat Amy was filled with brilliant lines delivered with amazing timing.

The quiet death obsessed asian and the butch lesbian are just two more characters who help round out the group.

The movie keeps a light-hearted feel never getting too heavy.

It is a perfect movie for a good laugh with friends.
