Street crossing requires mad dash

Screen Shot 2013-01-11 at 2.42.52 PMWalking across the street at Beebe Capps and Skyline Drive is difficult as people get more and more careless talking on the phone, eating, and drinking while they are driving.

“It’s dangerous because it tells you stop walking when you get about half way across the road,” said Austin Reeves.

As Reeves attempts to walk across the road, the cars start driving by even before the red hand shows up.

“Well, you get about half way and it tells you to stop, so you don’t even know what you’re supposed to do: go back, keep going, or just stop,” said Reeves.

This is a danger that people are starting to notice, and it is not just the students.

“Yeah, you just kind of have to hope that everybody saw the little white man was up on the screen and not the big orange hand,” said one woman crossing the street.

Officer Davis said he did not know about the cross walk issues, but he would like to fix it by informing the other patrol officers.

“It is illegal for other cars to drive across the street while anyone is on the crosswalk,” said Davis

Because it is illegal, the patrol cops in charge should do what they can to make the crosswalk a safe place for walking.
