Drama department hosts tournament

Screen Shot 2013-03-27 at 2.41.38 PMThe Searcy High drama department hosted a tournament for regional schools.

“To prepare for the tournament, the students coming had to pick which individual event they wanted to preform and then they had to pick a piece to perform,” said drama teacher, Mandy Taylor.

Taylor said the paperwork and registration was a bit easier than previous years.

“The entry form we used was at joyoftournaments.com. This made the process of registering go a lot smoother,” said Taylor.

According to the students, the tournament went smoothly, but stressful as usual.

“It went well,” said freshman Jessica Corona, “It was a little disorganized, but that couldn’t be helped.”

During the tournament, each of the students had a different job.

“I timed performances and held up index cards each minute,” said freshman Jackie Wood.

Other students did jobs like running back and forth doing errands for various people, working in the concession stand, and cleaning in the coaches lounge.

They all worked very hard making sure that everything went smoothly.

“Time keeping was easy,” said Corona.

Most of the students viewed the tournament as a learning experience for them.

“I learned how to time keep,” said Wood.

Some students got irritated more than others.

“It frustrated me when the judges were late,” said Corona.

Overall, the tournament went smoothly.

Everybody tried their hardest to make sure everything went right and on schedule.

“The awards ceremony went well,” said Wood.

Both Taylor and the students enjoyed the tournament and look forward to having more in the future.
