Each year freshman science students work together to design, research and present projects for the teachers and public at Science Night. The students in the classes grouped together and made projects based on the things they had studied in class.
“We did our project on Charles Law,” said Freshman Alexandra Richardson. “It was fun but scary at times working on our project.”
The students spent weeks working on projects and preparing for science night. Each of the students prepared a presentation to go with their project.
“We imploded cans for our project,” said Richardson.
The topics the students chose ranged from nuclear fission to wave frequencies.
“We did our project on nuclear fission,” said freshman Desiree Young.
The pubic was welcome to come and participate in presentations. They watched the presentations and asked thorough questions to the students.
“It was stressful having so many students there,” said Young.
Some of the older students came back to help with science night.
“I basically walked around and told people what to do,” said junior Keirstyn Kittler.
They had quite a stressful night trying to get everything in order.
“I didn’t want to stay after school,” said Kittler.
The students showed their presentations from six-thirty to eight. The teachers were very impressed by the students’ projects.
“The strawberry extraction was good. And the mechanical advantage and efficiency project did very well at explaining and presenting,” said science teacher Melissa Lawson.
Lawson said the students were rated by the pubic for best project, best demonstration, and best explanation.
This put even more pressure on the students to do better. According to the students overall the night went according to plan.
“It was fun but stressful,” expressed Young. “It was exciting and special having the public come.”
The students worked very hard for science night and according to the students and teachers it showed.
“I thought overall it was a great success and that the students did very well,” said Lawson.
The students worked hard this year on their science projects and the effort they put toward their projects clearly showed.
