Prom experience similar across the country

IMG_1001Prom.  It’s something almost every girl looks forward to since they start high school; I did at least.

Prom seems so glamorous for underclassmen and even younger girls that see their high school friends all dressed up for the special event.

The dresses, the make up, the jewelry, and especially the dates look to be a great amount of fun had by all..

In all reality, however, prom is a great amount of stress.

The perfect dress has to be chosen for each girl.

There are a lot of things to consider when picking out a prom dress: color, skin tone, range of motion in the dress, and dress code.  No one wants a dress that doesn’t allow you to sit down in or dance in.  Those things need to be thought about when buying a dress.

I got lucky; I fell in love with my dress at the first store I went in, and it was perfect for me. I tried on a few dresses after I found “The One,” but none of the other dresses compared to mine.

Another thing to worry about it getting the perfect jewelry and shoes to match the dress.  I got all my jewelry at the same place so that it all matched, and it worked great.  My silver jewelry matched my silver shoes, and everything went together perfectly.

There are a couple off necessary appointments to be made before prom that cannot be forgotten about. Nail, hair, and make up appointments are imperative.

I got my nails done Friday afternoon before prom.  I asked one of my dance teachers from my studio that does competition hair and make up to do mine, so she did. It was easier having a friend do it because I wasn’t rushed to get to my “appointment” on time, and she wasn’t rushed to finish me before the next appointment, like professionals.

She finished my hair and make up on time for me to put my dress on and make a few last minute touch ups before I went to take pictures.

Taking pictures was pretty fun. Every prom group chooses a spot around town or somewhere close to take pictures while everyone is all dressed up.  My friends and I chose to take pictures at The Black House and the courthouse.  We met up and took a few pictures, and then we switched locations. While at the courthouse we saw a few other people in prom attire taking pictures as well, we weren’t the only ones who had the idea.

My little baby niece, Brooklyn, was obviously jealous that I was getting more attention than her, so she decided to jump in a few of the pictures. She likes being the center of attention, even when it isn’t her turn to be in the spotlight.

After we got finished with pictures we headed out to go eat dinner. Choosing a restaurant was almost a disaster. The boys in our group didn’t care where we ate and the girls could not decide. Reservations needed to be made, so that narrowed down our restaurant options. My group finally decided on eating at Josie’s in Batesville.  We had a nice dining experience and had fun taking a few extra pictures in front of the restaurant, which overlooked the river.

While we were on the way back from Batesville we took a little detour.  One of the boys in my group has grandparent’s that live out that way, so we stopped at their house to let them see us all dressed to the nines. They absolutely loved the surprise. At their house, they showed us the view from the porch of their house and we made small talk about our dresses. Even though it put us getting to prom a little bit later than we planned, the stop was worth it because it brightened the day of a couple of sweet elderly people.

We made our back to the high school to hit the dance floor. When approached the door to the cafeteria, we ran into a huge sign that said “Welcome to Las Vegas,” and it had bright flashing lights. We all had to stop and take pictures in front of it, even though a few of my friends were anxious to go inside.

The inside of the cafeteria was unrecognizable. The decorations were elaborate and realistic. I felt like I was actually in Las Vegas. The marriage chapel put the decorations over the top.

There were so many games to play and a lot of prize options too. There was also a table full of food, and a fancy punch bowl. I didn’t eat any of the food, but the punch was delicious.

The dancing was my favorite part. I took my shoes off because the high heels were making my feet hurt, so I ditched my shoes behind a trashcan and danced without them.  Dancing around with my friends and playing games was the best part of the whole prom experience.

Once prom was coming to an end, they started handing out prizes. I didn’t win a prize, but that was fine with me because I had a great time.

Even though prom ended at midnight, the fun did not stop there. My group of friends and I all headed over to my friend Becca’s house for after prom. After prom was probably my favorite part of the whole night. Her parents had made finger foods and set out a tray of fruit for us to snack on. We all ate some of the food that had been prepared, and then we all gathered in her living room. We broke out the old, used Twister board and started a friendly game.  We all took turns being the spinner and actually playing. Sometimes Twister games last a while, but when my friends and I play Twister, we get competitive.

After we got too tired for Twister, we all settled down and turned on a movie. Taken 2 was playing on the television, but no one was really interested in the movie because we were all discussing how much fun we had at prom.  Everyone had a different favorite part of prom.  Eventually, everyone got too tired, so we decided that it was just about time to go our separate ways for the night. I spent the night with Becca so I would not have to drive home at three o’clock in the morning. The boys were not that lucky because they all had to drive home after an incredibly tiring, yet extremely fun night.

Although prom was very stressful to me, I had a ton of fun; Everything about prom was great. Our pictures turned out great, despite the baby in a few of them. The restaurant was delicious. The decorations were extravagant. Prom, in general, is an experience I will never forget, and I cannot wait to do it all again for my senior year.
