Transplant from Florida, freshman jumps into Arkansas life

mailI moved all the way from Orlando, Florida because of family I have here. Going from a place where I was my entire life and where I had all of my friends to here, where I only knew a few people was kind of tough. But, I was able to meet some nice students at church that would be going to my high school so, that made it better.

I was nervous to start Searcy High School but, I have a twin sister with me so it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. When I woke up monday morning, I had mixed emotions. As any freshman and new kid would be, I was nervous, excited and wasn’t sure what to expect being here. Being a new student and going to high school were two new experiences for me. Even though I moved here about two weeks before school started I still got all of the classes that I wanted. I had to take 2 classes I already took in Florida. However, it also meant those classes would be easy for me.

The first day of school went well. The day went by slow and I was missing some of my old friends but, I met many new people and some that new what it was like to be a “new kid.” The classes were better than I thought they’d be and all of my teachers were super nice. I started to relax and talk to more people as the day went on.

Tuesday was better! I had a great group of people to sit with at lunch and again I met more people. Some friends asked me if I wanted to go to Lionfest with them. I have never gone to one and didn’t know what to expect, but I was sure it’d be great.

The rest of the week was about the same. With meeting more people and learning about the town and school. Every day it kept getting better. Lionfest was really fun. I enjoyed seeing the teams and spending time with my new friends.

The school and town was different than I was used to. West Orange High School, which was my old high school, had three times the number of students at Searcy High School, we had I.D. cards, and the campus was bigger with classes more spread out. I wasn’t used to the lockers because the middle school I went to didn’t have them. But, it turns out I really do like it here. Searcy is my new home and I can’t wait to see what happens while I’m here.
