Searcy is home to several sets of twins in varying grades; two sets of freshmen twins, two sets of sophomores, and two sets of seniors.
“I really like being a twin. It’s an interesting experience. I don’t know what it’s like to not have a twin,” stated freshman Laura Jenson.
With one twin in each class, names can often be hard to remember.
“The most frustrating things about being a twin is when my mom gets our names mixed up and when we have to share everything,” she said.
However, there is an upside to every story.
“I always have a friend with me,” says Jensen about her twin, Sarah. “Every night is a sleepover.”
Senior Carley Berberian feels the same way about her identical twin, Jorden.
“Of course, I love being a twin! We’re best friends,” she explained. “Everyone asks me what it’s like to be a twin, and it’s kind of hard to answer because I don’t really know what it would be like to not have a twin. I love that I’ll always have someone there for me no matter what. The only thing that sucks about being a twin is that, for me and Jorden at least, our styles are so different that we can’t share clothes very much. And sometimes we argue over stupid stuff but that’s all.”
Twins are stereotyped to be the same, with matching backpacks, same hairstyles, and identical closets. In spite of that, Jensen has a different definition of twins.
“Most twins need their own faces, their own personalities,” Jenson said. “How would you feel if someone had the same personality as you and shared everything with you?”
Sarah Jenson, Laura’s opposite, said she wouldn’t change anything about being a twin.
“It is absolutely perfect. I would customize the twin, but keep the role of being a twin,” she explained.
Laura agreed, “Most twins hate each other, but we grew up having to be close, so we’re naturally best friends.”
Senior Tayler Davis said being a twin is very entertaining.
“It feels like you’re looking into a mirror all the time. You couldn’t find a better friend. You have a wingman, best friend, and a brother all in one,” Davis said.
His opposite, Tyler, only likes being a twin sometimes.
“It is fun but frustrating at times,” he stated. “We’re brothers and best friends, so even if we don’t get along all the time, I know he always has my back and I have him.”
However, there is one thing he does not like about his situation. “I hate when people think we are the same person; it bothers me,” Tyler said.
Taylor Davis has his own dislikes to the situation. “We have to share everything – he always breaks things. And people always assume that since one of us does something, the other automatically does it too.”
Sophomore Dillon Greene said he thinks it’s pretty cool knowing he has someone that looks just like him and behaves the same way.
“I like being a twin because you have someone close to you. You also can tell them anything and they will listen. You have someone to make you feel better when you are upset,” he explained.
However, he dislikes the confusion that comes with it.
“People always get us mixed up and it’s annoying,” Dillon stated.
It’s easy to see that twins are actually more different than they are alike. Their personalities, styles, and faces can differ, but they are usually the best of friends.
