The tennis team is looking forward to a great season as it kicks off.

The team is energized and ready to go with a new freshman and three returning seniors with them.

The seniors Stephen Hoffman, Morgan Stanley, and Sydni Woodard are captains.

“I have a double D partner and I’m looking forward to state. I think we’ll do great,” said Woodard.

The team trains hard everyday and a good benefit to them is that many of the team members have been playing tennis since they were little, like Woodard and Stanley.

I have been playing since I was about ten and I have always enjoyed it,” said Stanley.

Other schools are practicing hard just like the Searcy High team so, they need a good coach to be able to lead them to victory at state.

Coach Dr. Miles Watson expects much from his rising team and is ready to take on the challenges.

He took on the job when he was available and they asked him to coach the tennis team. Ten years later he’s still coach and enjoying the job.

“We have talent coming back and I expect we will challenge for conference championships,” stated Watson. “Other schools practice well and we have to stay focused to win.”

They have been doing well and this season they have 16 matches total, then comes Conference Tournament and State Tournament.

Everyday during the teams practice and matches the team’s skills and motivation are improving.

“During the summer, we had to train a month and most practice on their own a few times a week,” said Stanley.

The coach, players, and captains all expect a good turnout from this season. Out of the first 6 games, the tennis team won 4 of them.

“My expectations are to try and not to lose any more matches and practice really hard. Some challenges we face are a few of the teams we play are really good, but we hope to come back and beat them the next time we play,” stated Stanley.

As of September, they have won most of their meets.

The teams regular matches are every Tuesday and Thursday and on Monday, September 30. They begin at 4 p.m. and the places that they are held out differ. For more information, go to Searcy High School’s website.
