Golfing is one sport at the high school that can be played in competitions and for pleasure. This year the team has some new players.

“We have a lot of good freshman and sophomores this year like Aaron Tuggle and Austin Pike,” said sophomore Colton Smith.

Most golf players strive to play at a high level and expect to do well.

“I am looking forward to seeing how our team will perform at state, but I’m even more ready to redeem myself primarily from last year,” said junior McNeil Killough.

“I am looking forward to making state this year,” sophomore Sutton Gadberry stated.

Each member of the team has different reasons they play.

Smith said, “He was looking forward to breaking 40.”

“I chose to play golf because my entire family plays and it’s a sport you can play your whole life,” said Gadberry.

“I played football and basketball,” explained Smith. “Golf is just a sport that you can play for the rest of your life.”

Killough said he started going to the driving range to hit balls at a young age.

“When I was ten, I started to hit better shots and got hooked on golf,” said Killough.

Gadberry believes they have a good team.

“Everyone gets along and works hard! We have gotten to know each other a little more and became friends,” she explained.

“We, as a team, have many new methods, but we are only working on chipping and putting by two balls,” said Smith.

The majority of the team has high expectations for their golf career.

DSC_0708Sophomore Austin Pike said, “I plan to play golf in the future for college.

He also has been playing golf since he was ten years old. He has a very different view on why he played golf.

“Mainly because it is just enjoyable and a good way to spend time with friends,” he said.

He has many strengths but only has one favorite strength and his favorite practice.

“My biggest strength is when I’m playing one of my short games, and my favorite practice is when I can putt and chip for a few hours,” Pike explained.

Pike agrees with the others about the team being good this season.
“I really like the team this year, because we have four guys that can all shoot in the 70’s and everyone has a good practice routine; I believe we have a shot as a long as we all past 70 scores,” he said.
