Lions beat Mountain Home, 29-28 for homecoming win

DSC_0094One of the many days students of Searcy High look forward to every year is homecoming game day. The game took place this year on October 4, and the Searcy team played against Mountain Home.

The game turned out to be a lucky one for the Searcy. There was great weather and packed stands to help bring the team to a victory with a score of 29-28.DSC_0887

At the beginning of the 4th quarter it didn’t seem like Searcy would pull through with the score being 16-28.

However, they managed to pull two amazing touchdowns and prevent the other team from scoring by intercepting the ball in the last crucial seconds of the final quarter.

It was a great victory and something else to celebrate during Searcy High School’s homecoming game.

“Before the game I’m just ready to get started and thinking about how well we will execute our game plans. After the game I was just really proud of the way our guys fought and never gave up,” said head coach Jeremy Poole.

The queen and her royalty sat on the stage from the cafeteria that was moved to the field. The platform was decorated for them with tall columns and decorative seats.

Each club picked a sweetheart to represent them. All of the sweethearts showed up in the stands wearing their dresses.
“It felt good winning my last homecoming game,” said senior Karonce Higgins.

The Lion Steppers and the Cheer Squad performed at the half time show before the band. The Searcy High Band performed with the theme ‘We are an American Band.’ These performances helped pump the crowd and team to finish the game strong and bring up a win.

“It was great! We got a standing ovation,” said saxophone player Denalee Suarez.DSC_0549

There were many Searcy fans out in the bleachers that night. The stands were packed with people to cheer on the team on their stressful and very important night. The perfect weather, school spirit, homecoming and love of the sport were all factors to get many people to come to the game.

“I went because I wanted to hang out with my friends and watch us beat Mountain Home,” said freshman Destiny Gauvey.
