Each year, the week before homecoming is buzzing with excitement, from ordering corsages to finding last-minute dates to stressing over that special outfit.
Different clubs from around the school select sweethearts to represent them at both the homecoming assembly and the game itself.
Homecoming court this year consists of: Sophomore Maid Mason Murphy, Junior Maid Angel Breaux, Senior Maid Mecayla Ramer, Maid of Honor Lauren Lindsey, and Queen Cassidy Stevens.
It is considered a real honor to be chosen to represent the student body on the field homecoming night.
Several preparations are made and perfected for this big night.
“I bought my dress and suit. I also chose my escorts, Grant and Collin. I went out and got my nails done and picked how I would wear my hair. I went to Anne’s Bridal and picked out my crown. Then I went to Carren’s florist and picked out my corsage for that night,” said Stevens.
The football team chooses the court.
“The sophomores chose the Sophomore Maid, the juniors chose the Junior Maid, and seniors chose the Senior Maid. Then the whole football team votes on the Maid of Honor and the Queen,” explained Stevens.
Ramer has also been preparing for this perfect night.
She explained that rehearsals were held on the field and on the stage prior to the day of homecoming.
“I bought my dress for the assembly and my outfit for the field. I got my hair and make-up done the day of,” said Ramer.
Students gather the day of homecoming at 1:30 in the auditorium to watch the presentation of the court.
The dresses are beautiful, the atmosphere is exciting, and the game expectations are high.
Homecoming is a fun milestone in high school.
“I think it’s always fun to get dressed up and go to the football game,” said Stevens.
Ramer agrees, “I think it’s fun, but I wish we were allowed to have an official Spirit Week.”
All in all, Homecoming proves to be an exciting event for students, whether it’s the actual game, dressing up, or just the fact that we get out early.
