After listening to Katy Perry’s newest album, Prism, my thoughts about Katy Perry have certainly changed. From her clothing style, to her music, Katy Perry certainly is unique. In the past I haven’t always been her “biggest fan,” but the album is actually quite enjoyable. It features the number 1 single, Roar, an inspirational song that talks about rising up from the dust, and making something of oneself. It has a pop, rock sort of feel and is a catchy song. I found it stuck in my head a couple times.
The other songs on the album hold a similar theme such as the song, By the Grace of God. It is a song that talks about Katy Perry’s journey of trying to find her self again after her divorce. It was definitely very brave of Perry to write about a song about something as intimate as that. Though, I can’t say I’m surprised. Katy Perry has never held back in her music, or the way she presents herself, in the past.
On the other hand, I really did like theme Katy Perry was going for. It is featured in a lot of her other songs. Such as her song, Firework, that talks about being the best of oneself. It is a very motivational song. I also enjoyed the other songs on the album, such as the song, Unconditionally, that talks about loving someone despite their flaws.
I really like the sense of life that Perry has recently put into her music. To me, there is more meaning in a song about loving someone unconditionally, then there is in one that talks about what someone did, “last friday night.” While I did not have very high expectations, I was very impressed. Katy Perry certainly has a wide range of music. She has made songs and albums in many music genres, mainly pop, and does try to branch out.
Her release of the the album, One of the Boys, topped the charts in more than 25 countries, and sold more than 72 million digital tracks. Katy Perry’s humble beginning, however, starting in gospel music, has interested many, such as was displayed in the movie, Katy Perry:Part of Me. She has obviously come a long way since her days of singing gospel. Prism, has been very popular, selling over 286,000 copies in the first week it was released. Perry, as usual, has drawn in a big crowd of listeners targeting teens in particular.
After the release of her latest album, I’m excited to see what she is going to come out with next. Maybe this track of inspirational music will continue for Katy Perry. One thing can be for sure, Katy Perry has clearly, “shaken the ground,” in the music industry and has definitely made an impression. I can’t wait to see what Perry comes up with next.
