Each year Searcy High School’s prestigious choir takes part in an event called all region, which is a competition for choir students.
Choir director Tina Niederbrach said students have to learn all of the songs, and yet in the tryout room they only have a short time to sing parts of three songs.
“Within that two minutes and twenty five seconds, you have to prove to the judges who are behind the curtain that you know that music better than anyone else,” Niederbrach said.
A competition requiring students to learn up to six songs definitely requires dedication to reach the goal you want. Choir members understand the dedication it takes to compete.
“I practice at least thirty minutes every day, I come during lunch sometimes, and I come to extra rehearsals, any open rehearsal that’s available, I’m there,” said sophomore Maddie Cossitt.
Neiderbrach believes her students have a great work ethic.
“I think success begets success,” she said. “If you have a tradition of always doing your best, then, every year everyone is always gonna try to keep that up.”
With any competition, difficulties will arise for anybody participating.
“Finding the time to practice, because between football and all the other stuff that I do, it’s really hard to find time,” Crossitt said.
She also has high expectations for this year’s all region.
“I work really hard, and I know the music pretty well, I guess you could say,” said Cossitt.
