The tales of Dr. Seuss came to life last week with a little help from Searcy High School’s drama department.
It is tradition that the fall play is previewed to English classes in all four grades.
Each class period got to watch different parts of the play.
“It means showing the people I see everyday and the people I hang out with how hard we have been working after school,” said junior actor Joe Kalinowski.
The preview is put on as a practice for the cast to perform for the public.
“It’s extremely exhausting, but it gives us a chance to perform in front of an audience and it really helps when they cheer, scream, and clap,” said senior actress Kara Treadwell.
This gives the actors time to realize when the public audience will react to the words they say so they can prepare to hear the music over clapping and other distractions.
The English Preview is not only fun for the audience, but for the cast members as well.
“Being on stage and being silly and just having fun and making people laugh; its just a joy,” said Kalinowski.
Being that this day was the casts’ first performances, the encouraging audience helped motivate the performers.
“Seeing the reaction from all of my friends; to see that I’m in the show and showing them all of the fun that we have and what theater is all about,” said Treadwell.
Through out the course of this day, theater students performed a variety of scenes to the student body.
This year’s play is exceeding the already high existing expectations to the many audiences who viewed the play.
Overall, this year’s Fall English preview was a success and many students could not be more thrilled for next year’s performance.
