With a student body of over 1200 students and three music programs, Searcy has many musically talented students, but junior Maegan Franklin is a bit of a YouTube star.


“I started playing guitar when I was thirteen, and I haven’t had any lessons or anything,” said Franklin. “I just taught myself to play.”


Music has played a big part in Maegan’s life long before she started high school.


“I’ve always been a musical child. Since I was little, I have little home videos of me singing in my diaper and stuff like that,” said Franklin.


Franklin’s reasoning for playing goes far beyond her love for music.


“Singing just gives me a release of everything, and I write songs too, so if something happens through the day or in life, you just write it down,” said Franklin.


Her YouTube friends and fans have been nothing but supportive of her talents and dreams.


“In the summer of 2011, I started getting on Twitter and stuff, and I made a lot of YouTube friends,” said Franklin. “They told me about how you can just post videos and send it out.”

Maegan has high hopes that her talents and love for music will take her further than the small town of Searcy, Arkansas.


“I plan to take myself to recording labels and see if they want to do anything,” said Franklin. “The chances of making it are astronomical and you just want to prove that you can be that star.”


With hard work and dedication, all things, including becoming a famous singer, are possible.
