Who would have thought that there’s a sport for throwing a frisbee? The Searcy Ultimate Frisbee team was started by Harding student, Chris Dascalos.
“The team started when I was talking to a few of the kids in my small group from church and they were interested,” Dascalos said. “That night, they tweeted about it and it blew up, and the next week we started having practices and now we have about 10 kids that come to practice consistently.”
The team is hard at work improving their skills.
“I think we’re good, but we definitely need room for improvement,” said junior Hunter Brassel.
Dascalas said the skill level’s pretty high but here’s always room for improvement.
“By the time the kids are done playing and done with all our practices for the year, they’ll be ready to hop into a college practice and start contributing right away,” Dascalos said.
If you are wanting to join this team, there are few requirements to play.
“All that you need is a pair of cleats and a disc to play, and I can teach anybody how to throw a frisbee,” Dascalos said. “So the rest is your own to have fun.”
“You need to be semi-in-shape; we do run a little bit,” noted junior Meghan Mash.
Dascalos said knowing how to throw a frisbee before joining the team would allow new players to jump into practice immediately.
The team welcomes all newcomers with open arms.
“I’m excited every time someone new comes to practice, Dascalos said. “I give them a free disc, and it also gives them an opportunity to try something new. It’s really a great sport for you to make friends, reach out, and do something new.”
Practices are at 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at the field across from the junior high.
If you would like to join the team, come at these times to the field across from the Lion Stadium.
