The bowling team finished its last game for the season. They lost State to Cabot, who has won State for the past three years in a row. However, members of the bowling team believe that the season was still a success.

“I believe this season was a success,” said junior Jed Stracener. “The team’s big goal is to always make it to state.”

Although they did not win, they achieved one of the other big goals just by making it to state.

“Our goal was to make it to State and not come in last,” said sophomore Sutton Gadberry. “I think overall we had a good season.”

Since they didn’t get the state champiionship, junior Angel Breaux believes there is always room for improvement.

“We could pick up our spares more,” said Breaux.  “We need to get more spares and strikes and stop leaving open frames.”

The team practices every Tuesday and Thursday during the season.

“We work on picking up spares, throwing strikes, and hitting the seven and ten pin,” said Gadberry.

Each one of the players have a unique story for how they got into the bowling team.

“My freshman year, Coach Stewart asked my friend and I to try out and, as a joke, we did, not thinking we’d actually make it,” said Gadberry. “Once we were on the team, it turned out to be fun.”

Bowling has been a part of the players’ lives for a long time.

“I have been bowling since the age of 2. I remember going into the bowling alley and having to use all of my energy and strength to throw a 6 pound bowling ball,” said Stracener. “Now, I throw a 16 pound bowling ball over 300 times a week.”

Bowling is a game that’s easy to learn but difficult to master.

“I’ve bowled my whole life and still have not achieved a perfect game,” said Jed Stracener.

However, the bowling team has learned some tricks during their time on the team.

“If you feel yourself rushing through each shot, step back, take a deep breath, clear your mind of all distractions, and focus mainly on what you learned from your last shot, whether it was too far to one side, or if it was perfect.” said Jed Stracener. “Being able to adjust can be the key factor of a win and a loose.

The team came out in 7th place out of 10. Be sure to keep watch for next year’s season.
